Active in Age Oranmore is a not-for-profit voluntary group who organize events and activities for people of 55 years and over. Included in our events are information sessions and talks, social activities, such as film club, singing sessions, fortnightly lunch club, art/craft/educational workshops and occasional outings/trips.
We also offer a full weekly physical activity programme which includes Yoga classes and QiGong/Tai Chi sessions, Aqua Fit and Resistance Training.
The events normally take place in the Blue Room at Respond, Ard na Mara, Oranmore (old convent), except Aqua Fit and Resistance Training which take place in the pool and the gym in Club Vitae at the Maldron Hotel. There is an annual charge of €10 membership and a nominal charge for most activities. The social and cultural events of interest to our target group include Bealtaine, Culture Night, Positive Aging Week and Social Inclusion events.
Active Age in Oranmore is registered with County Galway Public Participation Network and are supported by various agencies, such as, Galway County Council, Galway Sports Partnership, GRETB, GRD and HSE.
The Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) 2018 – 2022 is funded by the Irish Government through the Department of Rural and Community Development and co-funded by the European Social Fund under the Programme for Employability, Inclusion and Learning (PEIL) 2014 – 2020.
